Isolé is the ideal energy saving product for offices, schools, and home use.  Anywhere that a multi-receptacle surge suppressor is being considered, Isolé may be a better solution .

What is Isolé
The Isolé IDP-3050 is an eight receptacle surge suppressor with an occupancy sensor which controls six of the eight receptacles. The surge suppressor has a lifetime warranty and a $25,000 connected equipment warranty.

How it works
Anyone that can plug in a power strip can plug in and setup the Isolé.  Plug your devices that need only surge suppression and/or occupancy sensing into the appropriate receptacle.

  • Computers should be plugged into one of the two “uncontrolled” receptacles to keep protected power supplied to the computer.
  • Task lights, computer monitors, printers, radios, calculators, electric staples and non essential electrical loads that contribute to “phantom” electrical loads should be plugged into one of the six “sensor controlled” receptacles.

The occupancy sensor plugs into the power strip with a telephone style connector and activates the “sensor controlled” receptacles whenever the space is occupied.  The sensor can be mounted underneath a desk using the self adhesive surface.  An adjustable time delay of 30 seconds to 30 minutes will keep the “sensor controlled” devices ON while the space is occupied, or until the area is vacated and the time delay expires.  The devices will have power restored immediately upon returning to the work area.

Why are Plug Loads important?
Many plug in products continue to consume energy even when turned OFF; a cell phone charger left plugged into a wall receptacle continues to consume energy even when your cell phone is disconnected.  Plug loads or “phantom” loads are so prevalent in todays buildings that they can account for as much as 15% of a homes total energy consumption and 9% of a commercial buildings total energy consumption  just through plug in devices.

Plug load controls for sustainability

Most international sustainable rating systems including the US Green Buildings Council LEED rating system encourage controllability of systems, and optimizing energy performance for reducing building green house gas emissions.   Isloé can help achieve a higher level of certification in the following pre-requisites and credits  categories.

LEED-NC (v2.2) EQ Credit 6.1 Controllability of Systems (1 Point)
Requirement:
Individual lighting controls for a minimum of 90% of the building occupants to enable adjustments to suit individual task needs and preferences.

Solution:
Provide either multi-level overhead lighting or overhead lighting and task lighting with local control per ASHRAE 90.1-2004 Section 9.4.1.4 (d).

  • LEED-NC (v2.2) EA Pre-Requisite 2 Minimal Energy Performance

LEED-NC (v2.2) EA Credit 1 Optimize Energy Performance ( 1-10 points)
Requirements:
Whole Building Energy Simulation
Demonstrate at least 14% improved energy performance above ASHRAE 90.1-2004

Solution:
Per ASHRAE Standard 90.1-2004 task lighting must be considered as part of the Lighting Power Density calculations. Therefore, include uncontrolled task lighting loads in the energy simulation of the Baseline Building Performance but include automatic shut-off control of task lighting with the use of the Isole’ in the Proposed Building Performance simulation where in ASHRAE 90.1-2004 Addendum P allows task lighting to be excluded from the Lighting Power Density calculations if controlled by an automatic shut-off control device from energy modeling requirements, saving both lighting and cooling energy.
